Rare, NASL (North American Soccer League) game/ match used ball. Team signed/autographed by members of the Vancouver Whitecaps. 24 blue ink autographs are spread out across the panels. In 1975, the NASL used a leather ball by Adidas which was similar to this ball. It had white with blue panels adorned with red stars outlined in white. The NASL logo and the facsimile commissioner signature appears on one panel while a large Adidas logo found on the next panel over with Made in France just below. The Adidas NASL game ball was in use from 1975 to about 1983. Circa 1983, the league awarded the game ball license to WILSON. The ball for sale here has the facsimile’Phil Woosnam’ signature. Woosnam was replaced at the end of the 1983 season as NASL Commissioner so this is likely a 1983 game ball. The league folded at the end of the 1984. Many of the autographs are light but several are still readable. Reviewing the team rosters this appears to be signed by the 1984 Whitecap team. Signatures include: Eddie Kruger, Ralph Mazzucco, Paul Nelson, Peter Ward, Chris Turner, David Houston, Barry Dearden, Colin Todd, Fran OBrien, Carl Valentine, David Norman and 13 others. The A written on the ball, I believe indicates that this was a game ball and the use backs this up.
